BBC Radio 4 is a British national radio station, which is owned by BBC. This radio station replaced another radio station called BBC Home service, which was a national and region radio station that aired from 1939 to 1967. It is funded by TV license fee.

In terms of the daily schedule, there are four main sections which are early, morning, afternoon and night. This would be a way to categorize the content that BBC Radio 4 presents. From midnight to 6AM, there are content that are based on news and weather, such as the midnight news and the shipping forecast. This would be so that the audience are informed of how their day will be like and would give any information about anything that had occurred that could affect their day. The midnight slot is similar to the late slot.
From morning 6AM to 12pm, there is content that would let the audience know how the day will be in general, such the show 'Today', which is a program that presents news and current affairs, including sports and weather and thought for the day, suiting its purpose which is to inform the audience. This program airs at 6AM as people would likely be awake getting ready for work. There are other programs that would air around this time, such as woman's hours. This would appeal to females as the program is based on women's voices and women's lives.
In the afternoon, from 12pm to 6pm, there are news-related content and some drama content, such as The Archers. The drama-based shows would appeal to the audience in terms of entertaining them and target those who have a liking to drama shows. This slot also includes shows which would educate the audience, such as BBC Inside Science.
In the evening, from 6pm to 12am, this slot is with news-related content, which is similar to the other slots which start off with content that would inform the audience about anything that is happening in this world, such as the Six o'clock news. This slot also includes some drama shows, which would be there to entertain the audience for the rest of the day. This content would appeal to both genders, however, the majority of the listeners would be males.
