The medium for this media product is Radio. The name of the program is Memetics. The radio show is a drama. The radio show will be about false information spreading around to other people, which leads to the rumour getting worse and having an impact on the person in real life. There will be sound effects, such as phones pinging as a way to present how people can get info rapidly on social media, bell ringing to signify a period of a school day, and footsteps to present that people are running or walking somewhere. There will be people talking in the background as a way to present that the characters are around a lot of people in certain places, such as school. There will be ambient background music used as a way to give a sense that it is a normal day and that the story is something that people can relate to, however, there will be some tense music to present when the friends find out that people are coming for them. The majority of the dialogue will be used in the radio show, however, at some parts of the show, there will be voiceovers scattered around giving facts about the subject based on the context of the scene. There will be intradramatic monologues where the characters may break the fourth wall and tell the audience an example of the character's subject and how it correlates. The target audience for this radio show will be people aged 13-30. This would be due to how a lot of young people get their first phone around this age. This will be targeted at those who are addicted to social media. In terms of the scheduling, this will be on the BBC Radio 4 schedule. It will be airing at 6pm, and the program will last around 10 minutes. This will be based on how a lot of young people are at home after being at school or work.
Launch date:
The proposed launch date will be in October. This would be due to how we would have enough time to produce our show and edit it fully. Also, we would be able to do some marketing so that the audience is aware of when our show will air and at what time. It would also give time for us to get some audience feedback for our show before we fully distribute it, so that we can know what they initially think of our show.
Plot:
The storyline begins with a group of people, which includes Leyton, Tyler, and Mason, having a normal day-to-day conversation at school. during the conversation, Tyler brings up recent news that has been around social media, which is that someone has been stealing money from people at school and that a girl in their year group had a lot of money stolen from her. The friends are shocked at the news but don't care too much about it as it doesn't involve them. However, on their way to class, they talk about how people have been staring at them on their way to their lesson and start to get a bit worried, with Mason speculating that Nathan, someone with who they had an issue in the past may have had something to do with it. After class, the friends are certain that someone has made up a story about them, in which they discover that someone had said Mason was the one who was stealing money from people in school in a post which has circulated on social media. This comes as a shock to Mason, who claims that he hasn't stolen from anyone and now he could potentially get in trouble as someone has falsely accused him. This had an effect on Tyler and Leyton as they are friends with Mason, which puts them in a position in which they are involved in Mason's 'stealing. Mason has the idea to go tell everyone that it wasn't him, but his friends warned him that people would come after them as they may believe that it was him, based on a video that is circulating of someone who wears the same coat as Mason running from someone, who they claimed was the thief. He then claimed that it was Nathan who made up this rumour which a lot of people seem to believe. This led to him having an idea of them going to confront him about what he did, with the idea that he would take back what he said on social media. The friends go to Nathan and confront him about what he did, only to have him deny that he was the one that posted about him stealing the money. The program would then end with Tyler reading a post about how Lisa and everyone who had their money stolen are going to find Mason and his friends after school and confront them about what Mason did and how his friends seem to be defending him.
Contingency plan - He interrogates Nathan about it and tries to find out if he was lying about his involvement in it or not.
Memetics is the fact that information can successfully spread even if it isn't correct and this can lead to people's undoubted belief in it despite its falsehood.
